Kananesgi Basket Festival celebrates the basket makers of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI). Visitors can meet with artists, learn the details of basket making during a panel discussion, and purchase unique pieces to take home. The festival will also feature EBCI carvers and weapon makers. Admission is free to the public.
The Museum of the Cherokee Indian offers a family-friendly fun day of free cultural activities including traditional dancing, storytelling, cultural arts demonstrations, genealogy workshops, hands-on craft workshops and more.
The Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning is one of the Sylva Rotary Club's signature fundraisers, along with a fall Car Show and a spring Pancake Breakfast. This challenging one loop, 5K course is on the campus of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. The route begins right in the middle of campus at the WCU “fountain” and also ends at the “fountain”.
Celebrate a Smoky Mountain Christmas at the Bryson City Christmas Parade – the “biggest little Christmas Parade in the Smokies.” There will be plenty of floats, bands, fire trucks, costumes, homecoming queens, candy, and, of course, Santa Claus will be there to bring in the Christmas season!
