A rising star in the Western North Carolina foodie world, Foragers Canteen transforms seasonal, local ingredients into all-time family favorites, like burgers, tacos, and pastas. Head chef Kevin Faini, normally soft-spoken and easygoing, assumes the role of mad scientist in the kitchen, where his versatility and vibrant creativity takes center stage. Need proof? Look no further than his taco varieties: choices range from the classics, like a blackened Mahi-Mahi with pineapple slaw (the Mahi, like all fish here, is wild-caught), to the downright so-weird-you-gotta-try-it, like a fried chicken and waffle (a waffle ‘tortilla’ is stuffed with buttermilk fried chicken, peppered bacon, and your choice of maple syrup, blackberry BBQ sauce, or honey mustard). But no matter how inventive his menu gets, the skill of Faini and his team always shines through. Foragers, then, is the kind of restaurant that invites adventure, but never forces it.
